MKT Bridge #12 - 5-28-2010

The last concrete beams are set for the bridge. The main steel span truss section is scheduled for delivery next Thursday, June 3rd. All equipment and materials have been removed from the trail tread to allow trail users to pass by the site. Extreme caution is advised if soil conditions become slick from dew or from rain. Barricades and gate have been opened to allow the free flow of trail traffic. Tuesday morning these gates and barricades will be closed and re-erected to protect trail users from a busy week of construction.
Approximate time to completion, three weeks.

MKT Bridge #12 - Temporary Crossing - open for business

As of 4:15 this afternoon, the flood waters have receded from the temporary Hinkson Creek crossing. Depending on the amount of rain received tonight, work will resume on the bridge tomorrow first thing. The crossing will be repaired enough to accommodate both foot and bike traffic.
If the weather agrees we will have the crossing open and barricades removed for the Pedaler's Jamboree Event this weekend May 29th & May 30th.

Extreme caution should be exercised when using the crossing due to steep approaches and loose tread surfaces.

MKT Bridge #12 - Temporary Crossing still flooded.....but not as much!

With all the rain over the last week, it has made it impossible for Houf Construction to reach the East bank to perform any work. The temporary Hinkson Crossing at Bridge #12 is still flooding with high water, though it appears, even with last nights rain to be receding.

Parks & Recreation staff will monitor the water level over the weekend to determine with Houf Construction when work will be able to continue on the bridge structure.

We are certainly hoping that this coming week's dry forecast will hold and that Houf Construction will be able to get to the East Hinkson bank to form and pour the end bent in order to set the steel truss section and concrete beams.

Pedaler's Jamboree Registrants stay tuned to this blog.

MKT Bridge #12 - 5-11-2010

Once again Mother Nature has snookered us. Yesterday's 1.05" of rain swelled the Hinkson and the Construction bypass road is about 10' under water. Barricades have been closed once again at both ends of job site to prevent access, until the Hinkson subsides. We still anticipate about a month's worth of bridge construction, approach construction and trail restoration until the project is complete, weather permitting!

MKT Bridge #12 - Work Continues 5-7-2010

Houf Construction finished the last of the three piers this week and drove pilings yesterday and today for the second of two Abutments. The abutment will be formed and poured next week if the predicted rain does not rain us out.
The bypass for bridge #12 and #13 are both passable, but please use caution as the surface is uneven and the tread material loose. The barricades have been set to the side for your continued trail enjoyment over the weekend, morning and evening hours.

MKT Bridge #12 - Back on Track - 5-4-2010

Houf Construction is back to work. After fixing the temporary crossing, forms are being stripped and the 3rd of three caps is being formed. With the window of dry weather we hope to get a significant amount of concrete poured and make up for last week's loss of working days.

Trail Condition Updates, Monday May 3

Bear Creek Trail
  • All of the 3-inch base rock is finished.
  • From Cosmo Park to Garth Avenue, 1/2-inch surface rock over the 3" is done. The 1/2 -inch surface rock us still needed under Providence bridge and at Northland.
  • Sand removed from tunnels and they are clean again!
MKT Trail
  • Contractor should be done with pipe installation today or early tomorrow.
  • Begin grading and adding surface rock from Katy Place Apts to Forum Nature Area and should be done by Thursday night. P&R staff will then roll it.
  • Tunnels are now cleaned!
  • Bridge #1 needs boulders on the approach to help shore up sides.
  • Bridge #2 has 3 hazardous trees that are partially up-rooting from the stream bank and falling onto the bridge. We will start on removing them Tuesday.
  • Between bridge #1 & #2 there is a low area that can use a small pipe which we will do after removing the trees and fixing the approach on #1.
Hinkson Creek Trail is not too bad and staff will report there following work on MKT and Bear Creek.
Thank you for your patience!

Smiley Lane Park -Cul-de-Sac 5-7-2010

Stockman Construction is well on their way to completing the Cul-De-Sac for the park. Sidewalks around the cul-de-sac will be installed next week, weather permitting. P&R Construction crews will then finish connecting sidewalks to the shelter and the playground and our Forestry division will finish up the gravel trail.
The last feature of the park will be the bio-swale and rain garden system that will treat and release the storm water produced from the cul-de-sac, shelter and play field.
