MKT: Tunnels cleared, some rills and surface washing in some trail sections, but overall the trail is in fairly decent shape. The Hinkson Creek did cross over the trail near the intersection of the MKT and the MU Recreation Trail, but the damage was minimal. It appears that the large pipes that were installed early in the spring helped prevent damage.
As of 4:00 pm, there's water over the trail west of Scott Blvd. You could probably ride through it, but you'll have to raise your feet and you'll get wet!
Bear Creek Trail: Usual damage- From Creasy Springs west to old Cosmo Park sled hill there's standing water, sand & silt and exposed base rock. Same conditions exist from east end boardwalk into Garth Nature Area. The trail portion by Northland, Rangeline and under Providence Road is also rough. The area between the boardwalk and bridge is also still in bad shape. Staff can not get trucks to this location to repair as the only access is through the creek.
Hinkson Creek Trail: The section by Rock Quarry Road washed out, otherwise in decent shape.
Neighborhood Parks and Trails
Staff is in the process of inspecting all neighborhood park trails, but if you notice anything in the park near you, we would appreciate it if you would let us know by calling 573-874-7201 and leave a message. Here are known problem areas:

Trail Condition Updates, Monday May 3
Bear Creek Trail
- All of the 3-inch base rock is finished.
- From Cosmo Park to Garth Avenue, 1/2-inch surface rock over the 3" is done. The 1/2 -inch surface rock us still needed under Providence bridge and at Northland.
- Sand removed from tunnels and they are clean again!
MKT Trail
- Contractor should be done with pipe installation today or early tomorrow.
- Begin grading and adding surface rock from Katy Place Apts to Forum Nature Area and should be done by Thursday night. P&R staff will then roll it.
- Tunnels are now cleaned!
- Bridge #1 needs boulders on the approach to help shore up sides.
- Bridge #2 has 3 hazardous trees that are partially up-rooting from the stream bank and falling onto the bridge. We will start on removing them Tuesday.
- Between bridge #1 & #2 there is a low area that can use a small pipe which we will do after removing the trees and fixing the approach on #1.
Hinkson Creek Trail is not too bad and staff will report there following work on MKT and Bear Creek.
Thank you for your patience!

January 19, 2010 Trail Conditions

It's finally starting to thaw from our recent cold spell and that means that the MKT, Hinkson and Bear Creek trails are at their muddiest mess. The trails are certainly usable, but count on getting your shoes partially covered in gray grime and if you're on a bike, make sure you have a windbreaker or jacket on that you don't mind having the traditional biker's tell-tale mud stripe up the back. In fact, you may want to consider a water repellent finishes (DWRs) for your favorite jacket. A DWR product, such as ReviveX makes cleaning that mud spray just a bit easier.
Here's a photo of MKT Trail near the Stadium Blvd parking lot. This shows the typical trail conditions found throughout the trail system.
