Trail Update Saturday, August 21, 2010

After Friday night's storms, there are several trees across the trails and many of the trail treads have ruts and debris.

P&R staff is scheduled to come in on Saturday to begin to work on the trails, so please use caution especially if you see equipment.

Trail Condition Updates, Monday May 3

Bear Creek Trail

• All of the 3-inch base rock is finished.
• From Cosmo Park to Garth Avenue, 1/2-inch surface rock over the 3" is done. The 1/2 -inch surface rock us still needed under Providence bridge and at Northland.
• Sand removed from tunnels and they are clean again!

MKT Trail

• Contractor should be done with pipe installation today or early tomorrow.
• Begin grading and adding surface rock from Katy Place Apts to Forum Nature Area and should be done by Thursday night. P&R staff will then roll it.
• Tunnels are now cleaned!
• Bridge #1 needs boulders on the approach to help shore up sides.
• Bridge #2 has 3 hazardous trees that are partially up-rooting from the stream bank and falling onto the bridge. We will start on removing them Tuesday.
• Between bridge #1 & #2 there is a low area that can use a small pipe which we will do after removing the trees and fixing the approach on #1.

Hinkson Creek Trail is not too bad and staff will report there following work on MKT and Bear Creek.

4/30/09 Trail Status

3:30 pm.

Due to flooding, the following Columbia Parks and Recreation Department trails were closed:

MKT Trail: MKT Stadium Blvd access to Forum Blvd.
MKT Trail: Bridge #12 to Scott Blvd access. Parking lot at Scott under water.
Bear Creek Trail: Creasy Springs access to Cosmo Park.

Trail Status Updates: Friday

We will use this blog to update the status of the trails simply because I can access it from home and am able to quickly post updates. This is especially helpful as we will have park staff working this weekend on the trails.

MKT Trail: The MKT Trail repair is nearing completion. The Forum Nature Area has been resurfaced and should be completed by the end of the day if not sooner. All holes near bridges have been filled and compacted. However, please watch approaches to bridges as there may still be some settling.

Hinkson Creek Trail: Nearly 20 downed trees have been removed. Mud has been cleaned off and surface rock as been added. Trail repairs should be substantially completed by today.

Bear Creek Trail: Downed trees and limbs have been removed. Park staff started removing soil and mud from trail surface. We anticipate that we will start adding rock to the trail this afternoon. Trail still has rough areas so users should be cautious.
